The training platform is easy to navigate and learn from. The subjects provide information in accordance to the relevant Australian Standards and also advice gained from practicing engineers. It is especially useful for people not based in Capital cities who cannot attend ASI seminars in person.

Very useful course content highlighting many subtle topics a designer should know about but which are often overlooked. Great insight of every subject covered along with history and development. Precisely organized course contents which first prepares for what to expect and makes sure a course taker is on track with the understanding.

The Economical Structural Steelwork Course, provided practical and clear presentations of cost considerations in the design, fabrication & erection of structural steelwork – suitable for many practitioners, both in-experienced and well versed in structural steel cost control.

I have just completed the Connecting Steel to Concrete course and can highly recommend it as a comprehensive guide for fastening steel to concrete.  A great way to expand your knowledge with lessons that can be studied in one 4-hour session or split into several short sessions to suit your work-load and available time.

I have completed running through two ASI on-line modules: finite element analysis (FEA) and strength design of cold-formed steel structures.  Here are my personal feedbacks. The former provides practical guidance in the application of general FEA with particular emphases on principles, risks, pitfalls, checklist before and after running the analysis.  This module is applicable to engineers with little as well as many years of experience in running FEA.  Although there is no clear mention of what inside the blackboard (commercial software packages), the checklist do include a comprehensive list to avoid GIGO (garbage in garbage out) scenario.  The coverage of non-linear analysis and buckling are suitable as an introduction to the subjects. The latter is a comprehensive coverage of the presenter’s experience in the development of various direct strength method for cold-formed steel structures from research to practical application.  Without going through any of the theoretical solutions, this module provides all the results from numerical and laboratory test results to come up with practical application for engineers.  It is suitable for engineers working in the cold-formed steel structures design space. In general, I find both modules practical and easy to follow.  The presenters have extensive experience in the subjects.  The advantage of on-line study is that there is flexibility in completing the course.  One can space out time required to go through the entire module and can also go back to review the materials number of times in order to grasp the basic information/knowledge that it is trying to convey.  Besides, this will add CPD hours.
