Eight award categories

The Health & Safety Excellence Awards are conducted by the ASI annually. Please apply online and download the Award Category Template to assist you with your entry. It's easy!

Site Award – Supply Chain (Manufacturing / DC / Fab Shop / Retail Site)

Criteria:

• What are the key initiatives the site has implemented to improve the health and safety of its employees, contractors and visitors?
• How does the site involve and engage all personnel to gain their commitment?
• How does the site foster a culture of continuous improvement?
• How are these activities and initiatives applicable across the steel supply chain?
• What has been the demonstrated improvement in health and safety?

(Provide claims data, injury / incident rates and other relevant leading and lagging indicator data – maximum 24-month period)

Site Award – Construction

Criteria:

To qualify for this category, please nominate steel intensive material usage (decking, structural framing, roofing, cladding and facades) 

• What are the key initiatives the site has implemented to improve the health and safety of its employees, contractors and visitors?
• Contractor Management
• Influence of design
• Steel Delivery
• Steel Erection
• Temporary Works
• How does the site involve and engage all personnel to gain their commitment?
• How does the site foster a culture of continuous improvement?
• How are these activities and initiatives applicable across the construction sector?
• Provide claims data, injury / incident rates and other relevant leading and lagging indicator data relevant to the project.

Safety Improvement Initiative Award

Criteria:

• What was the health and safety issue and the solution implemented to address the issue?
• What risk management processes were used to identify the issue and develop the solution?
• How did the initiative involve others and gain their commitment?
• What has been the demonstrated improvement in health and safety? (Provide claims, injury / incident data and other relevant evidence)
• How effective was the solution in eliminating / reducing risk and is it a long-term improvement?
• How is the initiative applicable across the steel supply chain?

Individual Safety Leader – Non-Practitioner Award

Criteria:

To qualify for this award, the individual is not employed in a role as Safety Practitioner.

• What were the individual’s key health and safety contributions and achievements over the last 12 months?
• What were the successful outcomes of their contribution and how were these measured?
• How did they demonstrate leadership and commitment in implementing their contributions?
• In what way was the individual’s approach and contribution innovative in achieving improved health and safety performance?
• How was the individual’s impact above and beyond that expected of their role or position?
• How has the company supported the individual’s contributions?

Steel Transport Driver of the Year

Criteria:

To qualify for this award, the individual is to be nominated by the Carrier with the endorsement and recommendation from two site managers they regularly service.

• Drivers performance to legislated standards over the last 12 months?
• Speed
• Fatigue
• Mass and dimension
• Load restraint
• Maintenance
• Leadership in driver professionalism
• Presentation and interactions on site
• Adherence to site specific PPE standards
• Professionalism on site
• Communication
• Mentoring / assisting other drivers

• Steel Transport Supplier of the Year – Small to Medium

Criteria:

• To qualify for this award, the Transport Supplier must have been a signatory to the ASI-LSC over the preceding 12-month period.
• Has the company’s performance to legislated standards improved over the last 12 months?
• What has been done to improve safety outcomes for the employees?
• What has been implemented to improve the safety outcomes of subcontractors?
• How does the company contribute to the social welfare of the greater community?
• How has the company contributed to better safety outcomes within its customer base?
• Do you measure injury and lost time statistics? If so please provide.

Steel Transport Supplier of the Year – Large

Criteria:

• To qualify for this award, the Transport Supplier must have been a signatory to the ASI-LSC over the preceding 12-month period.
• Has the company’s performance to legislated standards improved over the last 12 months?
• What has been done to improve safety outcomes for the employees?
• What has been implemented to improve the safety outcomes of subcontractors?
• How does the company contribute to the social welfare of the greater community?
• How has the company contributed to better safety outcomes within its customer base?
• Provide key leading and lagging indicators 
•    LTIFR – quarterly for previous 24-months (provide your formula / criteria)
• MTIFR – quarterly for previous 24-months (provide your formula / criteria)

Large Transport Supplier of the year only:

Submission forms must be accompanied by a maximum 2 minute video that addresses the criteria.

(Videos longer than 2 minutes will not be accepted)  

Category Winner video only will be shown at the Awards Gala event.

All other Nominations

Submission form addressing criteria must be submitted. Additional video (max 2 minutes) and photo content supporting the nomination are welcomed and encouraged.

Award Entry Requirements

Site, factory, department or individual employee of an ASI member company

Demonstrates a strong commitment to improving health and safety in the steel industry value chain

Permission must be gained by the appropriate supervising officer prior to the submission of an entry.
