This paper surveys the design and construction of 3D space frame structures from a 1982 perspective. In: Steel Construction journal, vol. 16, no. 2 1982. Though dependent on 3D behaviour, most ordinary structures can be analysed and designed simply and satisfactorily as plane frames whereas in designing space frames, their behaviour as 3D structures must always be kept in mind. Included are some examples of on proprietary designs and some of custom designed wide span structures.
