Following galvanizing at bath temperatures of around 455 C, there is no change to the microstructure or mechanical properties of the steel. However, during the process the yield strength of the steel is lowered, causing stresses between adjacent sections at different temperatures that may distort the fabrication on cooling. Cooperation between designer, fabricator and galvanizer can minimise or eliminate distortion risk. In: Corrosion Management, Nov 2000
