Video: Beam coping is a technique that can be performed on different types of steel profiles including that of an I beam as shown in the video. The main purpose of this fabrication process is to facilitate the connection between 2 steel beams. The beam is “coped” at both flanges at the connection end to a depth that allows the beam to butt up to the weld of the other beam. Connection can then be made by either welding or bolting the members together.
