Sustainability tops agenda at ASI convention

Sustainability trends and insights dominated proceedings at the Australian Steel Institute (ASI) convention.

Among the offerings: presentations on the ResponsibleSteel standard and the transition from the ASI’s Environmental Sustainability Charter (ESC) to the new Steel Sustainability Australia (SSA) certification program.

Shane Murphy from Infrabuild and Veena Sahajwalla from the University of NSW both discussed the future of sustainable steel, with Gretta Stephens from BlueScope Steel and Steve Porter from InfraBuild focusing on pathways to green steel and the role of material efficiency in delivering low emissions.

The convention closed with a sustainability opportunities forum featuring a panel of experts from the GBCA, Lendlease, BlueScope, Infrabuild and ASI. You can find out more about SSA at https://www.steelsustainability.com.au
