Victoria to strengthen local content requirements

A bill before the Victorian Government will help the local steel supply chain find work by introducing new consequences for non-compliance with ‘local content’ requirements.

The ASI submitted formal feedback as part of the reform process in December 2023 and July 2024.

It is expected that the Victoria Local Jobs First Amendment Bill 2025 will be debated in the Legislative Assembly in the sitting week commencing 29 July 2025 or subsequent sitting weeks.

After passage, the Victorian Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions will provide more information on the reform package, such as fact sheets and other guidance materials, via an update to the Local Jobs First website and consultation page on Engage Victoria. The bill strengthens mechanisms that support local content and provide the Local Jobs Cmr with additional powers.
