ASI circulates WorkSafe Victoria warning

ASI has urged fabricators to circulate to their builder and main contractor clients a WorkSafe Victoria warning that some imported structural steelwork may not perform as originally designed.

This may be due to the steelwork:

  • being fabricated to unknown standards, or
  • being fabricated poorly due to poor quality assurance systems, or
  • being fabricated with improper substitution of materials and welding consumables.

The WorkSafe Victoria guidelines outline the importance of implementing quality assurance systems for imported structural steelwork. Not having the systems in place may result in catastrophic structural collapse, resulting in serious or fatal injuries to workers.
