Message from the chief executive

The past month has been a busy one for the ASI.

Key among our activities:

ASI chief executive Mark Cain

In welcome end-of-financial-year news for our members, the ASI’s Steelwork Compliance Australia (SCA) scheme added AS/NZS ISO 3834 to its JAS-ANZ accredited certification service for steel fabricators. Also new this month:  a new multi-tiered Associates Package providing listing in the ASI industry directory (800,000+ hits a year), reach though our network of 23,000+ contacts, exposure in Metal Musings (7,000+ contacts) and Steel Australia (23,000+ contacts), and presence on ASI social channels (6,500+followers). https://www.steel.org.au/industry-directory/

Elsewhere, planning is well underway for the 2025 Australian Steel Convention from 15 to 17 September at the Manly Pacific Hotel in Sydney. The convention offers a comprehensive view of pivotal areas such as sustainability, technological advancement, global market dynamics, and infrastructure development—each critical to driving long-term resilience and growth in the sector. It has been a challenging 12 months – but your commitment to the industry and support for the ASI remains strong. ASI membership rose to a record 6,920 members in 2024-2025 (700 of those corporate members), and our certification schemes SCA and Steel Sustainability Australia (SSA) enjoyed continued strong growth (https://www.steelaustralia.com.au/asi-year-in-review-2024-2025/).

We thank you for your efforts - and look forward to an even stronger 2025-2026.
