12-month look ahead at steel

Outlooks for local and international steel were explored at the ASI's Economic Briefing seminars.

Tony Morriss (AustralianSuper) looks at the following topics:

  • what is happening to the global economy and investment markets – can the global economy avoid a recession, when will rates start being cut and why is China slowing so quickly?
  • outlook for the domestic economy in terms of rates, growth, inflation, the labour market, wages and housing.
  • how much structural change can we expect in the Australian economy and the steel sector over coming years due to the energy transition and population change?

Mei Leong (InfraBuild) presents the following:

  • economic conditions in the USA, Europe, China, India and Australia.
  • external factors that are and will be impacting the global steel industry such as decarbonisation, CBAM, geopolitical issues and other factors.
  • economic drivers that will impact the outlook for the residential, commercial and engineering construction sectors in Australia.

The seminar notes from the presentations will be in PDF format and are 29 pages (AustralianSuper) and 58 pages (InfraBuild). Once purchased, the seminar notes will be immediately available on your ASI dashboard.
