Technical presentation: Design and installation of tension control bolts - Sydney

The ongoing international alignment of technical Standards in Australia offers increasing opportunity for local companies to specify and utilize innovative technology, such as high strength friction grip Tension Control Bolts (TCBs). The use of TCBs is common in the UK, Europe, North America and Asia and presents an opportunity for local specifiers in Australia and New Zealand to minimise risk and benefit from the many installation advantages.

This evening presentation is designed to assist you to manage risk by improving procurement and compliance outcomes including duty of care under WHS for these safety critical fasteners. The presentation will include discussion on code requirements, in particular with regard to installation and what engineers, constructors and erectors need to know. TCBs are quick, safe and easy to install using electric shear wrenches which do not require calibration. Therefore, neither the tool or operator has significant influence on the preload applied.

Some of the presentation topics include:

  • Typical application and visual inspection
  • Global trends and productivity gains
  • Vibration resistance
  • Coating technology
  • Health & Safety advantages
  • Includes demonstration of Installation of 10.9 Grade EN14399-10 TCBs

Who should attend?

The presentation will provide clarity for all parties in the construction supply chain, supporting transparent and defendable design, procurement and installation practices and supporting obligations.

It will greatly assist:

  • Structural engineers and those who need to understand and specify structural fasteners
  • Fabricators and design-build contractors to appreciate the performance requirements, the correct installation procedures and benefits
  • Procurers and all others in the supply chain needing to understand their health and safety obligations and embrace best practice to minimise risk.
