Seminar: Beyond AS 4100 - Perth 2017

A frank discussion on the application of design standards to minimize engineers’ risks

Struc steel imageWith increased pressure on structural engineers to deliver designs in reduced time and at competitive fees together with ensuring safe structures, this seminar aims to assist engineers with how steel design and fabrication standards can be applied cohesively rather than in combat.

Increase your skills and knowledge and reduce the risk of failure by learning from industry experts Dr Peter Key and Mr Doug Hawkes. The seminar will also give participants the opportunity to provide feedback and comment on where structural standards are heading and how they can be improved.

The seminar content includes:
Mr Doug Hawkes, Principal Structural Engineer, Managing Director, Structural Integrity Engineering

  • History and players in the game (The divergence of ‘distance’ from the designer to the constructor)
  • Get off my patch (Who should be doing something?)
  • Design Standards (What do they cover and what happens when they don’t cover the circumstances?)
  • Materials and fabrication Standards (Relationship to design, who makes the call when changes occur)
  • Legal responsibility (Whose is it?)
  • How do we make this all work? (Bringing it all together)

In combination with:
Dr Peter Key, ASI National Technical Development Manager

  • AS/NZS 5131 'Structural steelwork - Fabrication and erection' – released Dec 2016
  • Revised AS/NZS 1252 on high strength bolts including new Part 2 on verification testing
  • New erection guidelines for structural steelwork
  • Changes/updates to steel product Standards and welding Standards
  • New AS technical Standard on mechanical/chemical anchors and guidelines from AEFAC
  • Newly developed ‘National Structural Steelwork Specification’ and ‘Standard Drawing Notes’ from ASI
