Identifying advantages of steel modular construction - Sydney

Presentation

This seminar will address critical elements of the modular construction sector and identify the pivotal role played by the Modular Construction Codes Board (MCCB).The MCCB was formed to fill the void for modular construction in Australia.

Seminar value

The seminar aims to broaden the current understanding of modular construction to a wider network of engineers and to clearly indicate the advantages of steel prefabrication and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA). Modular Design has been shown to save up to 43 percent of material costs in structures.

Who should attend?

The seminar is aimed primarily at practising engineers (consultants, designers, steelwork contractors and checking engineers) unfamiliar with the modular construction sector in Australia.

Seminar program

This seminar will identify relevant codes and standards for steel modular construction in Australia. This mainly includes AS 4100 with an interface to the MCCB. The seminar is structured around aspects of the MCCB comprising:

  • Scope, materials and structures
  • Connections
  • Damping methods
  • Code specifics
  • Design methodology
  • Actions (Applied loads)
  • Transportation loads
  • Lifting/erection loads
  • Robustness/progressive collapse
  • General principles
  • Design assisted by testing
  • Important levels and failure consequences
  • Prototype testing
  • Cut and paste or reference to other codes
  • The way forward
