Swarf is steel debris arising from cutting, piercing or fastening operations on steel products. If left on the surface to corrode, it marrs the appearance of metallic coated and prepainted steel surfaces. Swarf staining can be minimised by using factory precut sheeting wherever possible, by masking affected surfaces and by regular daily cleanup of swarf particles. Although not usually detrimental to product life, prevention of damage is better than repair.
