This publication is the seventh part of the set of 8 Tubular Connections Series books.
The connections included in this current Tubular Design Guide are generically associated with various configurations of fully welded connections between a chord member and typically two or more brace members where a gap exists between the brace members along the connected face of the chord. The gap between the brace members results in the brace member force needing to be transferred fully through the chord member connections, a distinctly different structural load path and behavioural model than that in overlapped connections discussed in TDG27.
In addition to the usual K and N gap connections, guidance is also provided for KT connections, the topology of which is a combination of K and T connections.
This publication supersedes in part AISC 'Design of structural steel hollow section connections, volume 1: Design models' by A.A..Syam and B.G. Chapman, 1996.
