ASI participated in the third Victorian Government Steel Industry Roundtable in September 2020 with the aim to ensure that the local steel industry continues to grow.
Following on from the Roundtable where the steel supply chain mapping project was discussed, the Victorian Steel Supply Chain Directory has now been published and is available online.
The Directory showcases the capabilities of Victoria’s competitive steel industry and aims to facilitate increased procurement from local suppliers. It also complements the Victorian Government’s Local Jobs First policy by assisting buyers involved in large government projects to identify local manufacturers with the capabilities to meet their needs.

The Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions (DJPR) commented that they have "worked closely with industry, the Office of the Local Jobs First Commissioner, the Major Transport Infrastructure Authority and the Australian Steel Institute to develop the Directory. We anticipate expanding the Directory to promote additional local companies and their capabilities".
ASI will continue to work hard for our members to ensure local industry participants capabilities are front of mind for all Victorian Government projects. We aim to maximise the contribution of the local steel industry to the state’s construction projects and capitalise on Victoria’s significant state infrastructure pipeline.
This is the first version of the directory and the DJPR welcomes, and ASI encourages our Fabrication members to participate in future versions of this directory.
