Entries to the 2009 ASI National Occupational Health and Safety Excellence Awards are open to ASI members until 31 July.

The awards are an initiative of the ASI National Safety Committee to recognise steel industry companies and individuals for high achievements in health and safety. The Awards are offered in the three categories of Site, Individual and Improvement Initiative. The two basic requirements are that entries come from a site, factory or department of an ASI member company in steel manufacture, steel processing, distribution or fabrication, and that a strong commitment to improving health and safety be demonstrated.

CMC Coil Steels’ Manager Processing in Sydney and winner in the 2008 Site category, Bob Christopher said: “The national awards program highlights to all employees of the level of safety the business demonstrates. It also gives you an understanding where others are based and is a great learning curve .It is highly regarded in this steel organisation and makes all employees very proud.

Our main advice to those looking to enter the ASI OHS awards program this year is to take the lean manufacturing program very seriously. This encourages all employees to be meaningfully involved and it is a very useful tool to promote safety awareness across all of the business.” More award information is available from the National page of the Events section of this website, or contact to Phil Casey Tel: 02 9931 6666 Email: philc@steel.org.au
