The winners of the 2007 Steel Awards for Queensland, announced on 17 August, reflect the wide array of development styles and steel uses across the State in the categories of Architecture Steel Design, Metal Building Product Design Award and Engineering Steel Design.

Presented by ASI State Manager – QLD & NT, John Gardner at a gala function held at the Hilton Brisbane, the winning entries range from a hillside retreat to a prominent public building in Brisbane. Design of a private art studio near Mount Cooroy on the Sunshine Coast won in the Architecture Steel Design category for JMA Architects. Work on mixed use office complex, Innovation House at Kawana Waters won in the Metal Building Product Design category for architects Bligh Voller Nield. And Queensland Gallery of Modern Art in South Brisbane, with its distinctive cantilevered steel roof won in the Engineering Steel Design category for consulting engineers Bornhorst TTW. A public art installation at South Queensland Institute of TAFE’s Toowoomba campus, known as Windmills on Show, scored a Special Mention for Innovation and Sustainability .
