With the Queensland State Election to be held on the 31st October, the Australian Steel Institute (ASI) has called on the next Queensland Government to support Queensland jobs by adopting the Queensland Fabricated Steelwork Procurement Policy.
Through government supporting the policy, the Queensland public will benefit from steel structures that meet the latest Australian Standards, and Queensland Steel Fabricators with workshops based in locations from the Gold Coast to Cairns will benefit from increased work driven by the policy. As well as supporting skilled jobs based in the fabrication workshops, the benefits will flow on to a community of specialist subcontractors which carry out steel bending, laser cutting, blast cleaning, painting, hot dip galvanizing and transportation. For every two jobs in the Australian steel sector, 12 more jobs are supported throughout its supply chain.
