Diligent management of onsite risks and high value placed on recognising the role of operational team members allowed Austube Mills to top three out of four categories in the latest of ASI’s annual National Health and Safety Excellence Awards it was announced on 12 September with two accorded to its Brisbane site alone.

Austube Mills was selected as the winner in the Individual, Safety Practitioner and Outstanding Site/Department categories. The winners were presented by awards sponsor, AustralianSuper at the Gala Dinner of the Australian Steel Convention at Grand Hyatt Melbourne.

Maintenance and Reliability Superintendent at Austube Mills in Brisbane, Rick Dunn was named the Individual Award winner and Safety Leader at Austube Mills in Newcastle, David Gomez was recognised as the top Individual Practitioner.

The Outstanding Site/Department Award went to the Manufacturing Department of Austube Mills in Brisbane for seamlessly integrating the functions from the business’ Melbourne facility without major incident.

The award judges from the ASI, Rondo Building Services, Southern Steel Group and Stramit Building Products also selected OneSteel Metalcentres’ Mobile Equipment Headlight Team for taking leadership on a top five onsite safety risk to win in the Improvement Initiative category.
