The ASI is calling for a more coordinated approach to assessing major resource project proposals more strongly linked to Australian Industry Participation (AIP) policies to help ensure wider economic benefits flow from extracting non-renewable national assets.

The policy proposal entitled Maximising the Opportunities for the Steel Industry from Major Projects – A Policy Prescription for the Future was presented to the Federal Government on 25 August at a special Parliamentary Forum attended by relevant Ministers, industry bodies and trade unions.

The ASI’s proposed policy direction aims at enhancing the current AIP regimes with stronger guidelines and transparency.
