The ASI is significantly ramping up its campaign to help counter the damage being done to the domestic steel fabrication industry from a surge in imports of very low-priced finished steelwork.
The stepped-up campaign includes:
As part of the campaign, ASI chief executive Mark Cain last week took ASI concerns on the surge in cheap imports to Channel 7 and Sky News, and a host of radio and print outlets.
The campaign to counter cheap imports comes on the back of a turbulent 12 months for steel, with ASI called on to act on a range of critical issues impacting the local steel industry, including the US tariffs, state and federal government intervention at the Whyalla steelworks, ongoing local content advocacy, calls for a ban on the export of unprocessed scrap steel, and anti-dumping.
ASI has stepped up its media presence to meet the challenges and is now increasingly being sought by media for comment on these and other issues impacting the local steel industry.
In the most recent of interviews, Mark spoke to journalists from news write service Australian Associated Press, the Herald Sun, Argus Media, Channel 9, The West Australian, ABC Radio, Sky News, Channel 7, ABC 7.30 Report, Agence France-Presse, The Age, Capital Brief, ABC News Radio, SBS, S&P Global, and Metals and Mining magazine. The Australia correspondent for China Global Television Network (CGTN) was also briefed.
