Case study evening: 80 Arthur Street, North Sydney

80 Arthur StreetCome and join us for a presentation highlighting innovation in multilevel residential steel construction - all welcome!

Whilst steel framed residential high-rise buildings are more the norm in other developed countries such as the UK, this 30 storey residential tower developed by the Meriton Group is a first for Australian high-rise apartment building.

Comprised of an innovative steel framed structural system utilizing universal column sections as primary beams supporting deep trapezoidal floor decking in the secondary direction, the building houses 218 serviced apartments and a modern retail space. This design allowed a structural floor depth of 290mm to be achieved whilst maintaining the 3050mm floor to floor height originally intended for a concrete framed building.

Key areas to be covered in the presentation include:

  • Cost competitiveness against other building materials
  • The structural solution – lightweight, minimal depth, construction speed
  • Benefits of off-site fabrication
  • Achievement of fire and acoustic requirements

Expert presenters

Presenters from Meriton Group (developer and builder), enstruct Group (engineer), AED Fire (fire engineer), Acoustic Logic (acoustic engineer) and Pacific Steel (steel fabricator) will bring a high level of project experience in discussing the innovative design and structural challenges of this iconic building.
