Information for Students

Australian Steel Institute actively supports the education of students in universities and TAFEs throughout Australia. To date over 7500 tertiary students have received the benefits from our special category of Student Member.

ASI provides technical and marketing information and contributes to the education of future industry professionals such as yourself. We are very serious about supporting students. Our expert technical staff provide lectures to students on the practical applications of structural steel. We also provide lecturers with resources for teaching purposes and present awards to third year civil/structural engineering students. 

To join ASI as a Student Member you need to be enrolled in a TAFE or University course. You will receive a Member number for login to the ASI eLibrary from where you can download a large range of technical resource information from the Student Resources area and the general Members' area.

The Structural Steel Resource Kit on the eLibrary includes videos on the steelmaking process, the steel supply chain, fabrication and the erection of steel, drafting and detailers' 3D models. In the area of design we include ASI publications Structural Fire Guide, Economical Structural Steelwork ( 5th edition), a student version of the Design Capacity Tables for Structural Steel vol. 1: Open sections, sample worked problems to AS 4100, a presentation overview of the design code AS 4100, the Steel Construction journal issue on the ASI limit state steel connections series, OneSteel section software plus much more.
