  Membership > Categories & How to Join

Membership

Each member, joining as an organisation or as an individual, is allocated a membership category according to their field or status. This is to ensure that ASI can provide a more targeted service to its members.

The Board may establish categories of membership and may make appropriate provisions for the granting of such membership and the conditions of that membership. Prospective members of the Company may join the Company under one of the following categories of Membership:


Sustaining Members:
For companies providing continued substantial financial support as determined by the Board. Please contact ASI directly for more details.

Manufacturer Membership:
For companies engaged in Australia in the manufacturing or finishing of steel products.

Service Centre Membership:
For companies engaged in the steel service centre industry in the business of warehousing, selling and distributing steel products and are appointed Distributors of one or more of the Manufacturer Members of the Company

Fabricator Membership:
For companies engaged in the fabrication of steel structures, vessels, pipelines or any other form of steel fabrication.

Associate Members:
Associate Members or companies engaged in supplying of equipment, consumables and/or services to Manufacturer, Service Centre or Fabricator members.

Professional Membership: 
For companies engaged in structural engineering, steel detailing, architecture, quantity surveying and/or project management.

Academic Membership:
For schools of engineering, architecture or building construction at an Australian university furthering the steel industry as part of its curriculum. Free membership to lecturers - apply by completing the Academic membership form below.

Academic Libraries Membership:
For academic libraries wishing to subscribe to Steel Australia magazine and Steel Construction journal, to gain an individual eLibrary login for the librarian and members' discount on the purchase of books from the ASI bookshop.

Individual Membership:

All individuals with an interest in the use of steel but who fall outside the other categories of membership.

Individual membership runs from July of one year to June of the next and is: 
       1. Not transferable
       2. Limited to the purchase of one copy of ASI publications as per ASI Bookshop order form list. 
       3. Limited to registering one place at any ASI event or seminar. 
       4. Entitled to one copy of each issue of Steel Australia and Steel Construction journal

New Zealand residents please complete the New Zealand Individual membership form (subscription excludes GST).

Student Membership: 
The Australian Steel Institute (ASI) offers free online membership to students studying Bachelor degrees in engineering, building or architecture and enrolled in Australian Universities.  Membership includes free access to the ASI eLibrary which provides comprehensive information on structural steel. Steel Shed Group: 
Please refer to the Steel Shed Group webpage for membership information.

How to Join ASI:

  1. Simply select the membership category which best applies to you or your business.
  2. Download the appropriate application for membership form below and fill it in. (For Steel Shed Group forms please click here)
  3. Send the completed form and payment to ASI P.O. Box 6366, North Sydney NSW 2059. If paying by cheque please make it payable to: Australian Steel Institute 

Note: The fee levels for Professional, Associate, Manufacturing and Service Centre categories are determined on an individual basis once your completed membership form is received by ASI Sydney Office . These membership applications are then sent to ASI Board for approval.
