The library is situated in our head office in North Sydney. It holds the most comprehensive collection of steel literature in the Southern Hemisphere including more than 5,000 volumes, and steel and structural journals dating back to 1964. Many of the journal articles are indexed and searchable on the library catalogue.  The ASI holds the most relevant standards pertaining to steel (these are only for use in the library).

Our services include personal assistance to library visitors, loans, inter-library loans, library searches, notification of significant acquisitions and compilation of bibliographies.  Our librarian Margrit Colenbrander aims to provide country and interstate members with the same standard of service enjoyed by Sydney users with the help of phone, fax, email and postal service.

The library lends items free to ASI members for a period of 2 weeks - in most cases these loans are renewable.  Videos and DVDs can be loaned out for a week at a time.  Copies of articles and conference papers can also be provided.  Library items can be requested directly from the website via a catalogue search.
