Sustaining members

There are three sustaining members of the Australian Steel Institute - BlueScope Steel, OneSteel and Fletcher Building.

 In Australia, BlueScope Steel manufactures a range of steel products, from slab, plate, hot and cold rolled coil, tinplate, and coated and painted sheet and coil products through to roofing and wall cladding, purlins, and house framing.

The coated steel range includes COLORBOND® steel and ZINCALUME® steel. Within the building products range are products such as LYSAGHT CUSTOM ORB®, LYSAGHT KLIP-LOK®, LYSAGHT MINI ORB®, LYSAGHT NEETASCREEN® fencing, LYSAGHT BONDEK® decking, and LYSAGHT UNI-PIER™.

BlueScope Steel has acquired the metal distribution arm of Smorgon Steel.

OneSteel manufactures and distributes structural, rail, rod, merchant bar, cold finished bar, chrome plated bar, reinforcing, wire, tube, pipes, fittings, valves and actuation.

The majority of OneSteel’s products are used in the construction, manufacturing, housing, mining and agricultural industries.

OneSteel has merged the manufacturing operations of Smorgon Steel and a joint venture company named Australian Tube Mills has been created for the tube operations.

Fletcher Building is a New Zealand based building materials manufacturer and distributor with operations in concrete, steel, fibreglass insulation, aluminium extrusion, roofing, access flooring systems, sinkware, laminates and panels and is involved in residential and commercial construction.

Stramit Building Products, a member of the Fletcher Building Group, is a major Australian manufacturer of roll-formed steel building products, including roof and wall cladding, guttering, fascia, purlins and formwork, supplying both the residential and commercial sectors.



St.George Corporate & Business Bank has demonstrated its commitment to the steel industry by signing a major sponsorship agreement with the ASI.

St.George will be a major sponsor of a number of ASI events, including the Australian Steel Convention in November. The bank will also write quarterly financial market updates relevant to the steel industry for Steel Australia magazine and the ASI website.                       The ASI comprises key membership subgroups and is able to support its marketing and industry service functions from the sustaining grants and membership fees.

The ASI has a high market profile through member sponsorship of key events like the Steel Awards.

ASI industry magazines, Steel Australia and Steel Selections are funded by industry advertising.

The ASI conducts a number of case study and influencing seminars over the year which are funded by members’ contributions. There are also a number of membership events funded from member fees, including the Annual Steel Convention. The ASI’s Steel Construction Journal, international speakers and technical service are also funded by members.

The ASI also supports member product evenings funded by the presenting companies.
