The ASI has just launched its dedicated asset management system to vastly improve industry access to authoritative steel-related information resources.

Known as eLibrary, the unique new facility on Australian steel makes available selected extracts from the ASI’s own publications as well as other member publications in document, image, video, and 3D model format at the click of a mouse button. The new facility’s keyword search function allows industry at large to search for and find appropriate and relevant information on steel design and application. “eLibrary improves and enriches the delivery of steel technical resources to members and the general public,” said the ASI’s Librarian and Digital Asset Manager, Margrit Colenbrander who is co-leading the project with the Institute’s National Marketing Manager, David Ryan. “For industry and the general public, the search results page lists the resources marked clearly by order of access from public to member (electronic resources) to member (library resources).” A separate section explains the process of 3D Modeling and affords direct access to viewing and downloading the ASI’s growing collection of 3D models. Navigation is enacted via a Search Page, Browse Subject, Browse Bookshop and an Advanced Search page for library resources. The Browse Subject section takes the form of a taxonomy or subject hierarchy, clearly showing what resources are available under each subject heading. The Bookshop section displays ASI book listings in a much more informative way, including a synopsis and contents pages for each book.
