Australian steel supply on tap

The ASI has just launched its new Internet-based Steel Industry Directory to allow local industry to more readily find the right steel or related supplier for their specific needs.

The new directory service was inspired by the ASI’s successful online Fabricator Matrix in promoting the capability and capacity of members, but covers the entire Australian steel value chain. A first for the industry, the new online listings provide a ready source of information on the capabilities and capacity of ASI members for anyone on the worldwide web. The new initiative reinforces a number of other activities being undertaken by the ASI to streamline links to local industry and support its efforts to maximise opportunities for local content. It provides a handy ‘ready reckoner’ for information on products and service provide by ASI members. The new service comes with an array of features made possible by the web-based environment, such as key word searching and remote content maintenance. Each Directory entry focuses on each member company’s core business and is reality checked by the ASI prior to approving the listing. The Directory is divided into 12 core business categories - Coatings (paint and fire protection), Detailers, Distributors, Engineers, Fabricators, Galvanisers, Metal Building Products, Rollformers, Steel Manufacturers, Steel Sheds, Processing and Associated Services. It can be accessed at www.steel.org.au directly from a top menu bar option.
